Would it surprise you that a recent study of American parents showed their biggest health concern for their children 0-18 yrs is screentime?
Contemporary Pediatrics reported this week on C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital national poll which ranked overuse of devices, social media and internet safety as the top 3 concerns for parent/carers.
Back in 2019, we set up Wirral Unplugged after hearing from local parents how hard the struggle was (some described it as a ‘fight’) to balance screentime.
Our challenge? We wanted to make it as easy for families to unplug as it was for them to pick up their devices.
How do we do this?
By making our materials exciting and following wellbeing guidelines. Our boxes offer 10 hours of cooking, crafting and playing games together all while learning about a specific subject. We work with experts to develop our materials collaboratively, turning more complex concepts like industrial farming into a poo balance game or NASA’s DART programme into an Asteroid Hunt. Basically, if it’s not fun it doesn’t go in the box, and all ages connect to this.
